Fun Fact: In 1907 he joined Shackleton's Antartic Expedition. Together with three other men he was the first to climb the 3000 metres+ Mount Eruebus, not to mention that Mawson was the first man to step on the South Magnetic Pole! Four years earlier Mawson had gone on a expedition to Vanuatu and published a great deal of papers on it.
